England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler is auctioning the shirt he wore in his team's victory over New Zealand in the final of last year's Cricket World Cup to raise money to help battle the COVID-19 virus.

Buttler, who ran out Martin Guptill in dramatic fashion to seal England's first World Cup title, said the proceeds from the shirt would go to the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals charity.

The charity, which supports the two hospitals in their fight against heart and lung disease, last week launched an emergency appeal to provide life-saving equipment to those with coronavirus.

At the time of writing, the highest bid for the shirt, listed on eBay and signed by all players in England's World Cup-winning squad, stands at £65,900 ($82,000/€75,000).

"As we all know, hospitals, doctors, nurses and the National Health Service are all doing quite an incredible job at the moment, and in the weeks and months to come, they are going to need our support even more so," Buttler said in a video posted on Twitter.

Britain has reported nearly 30,000 cases and over 2,300 deaths from the virus, which has killed over 45,000 people and infected more than 903,000 worldwide.
