The International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Committee has formed a task force to plan for the upcoming season.

Throughout this week, the park and pipe, cross, moguls and aerials, and Alpine snowboard subcommittees all met in online forums, before the entire group came together for the Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Committee meeting.

The main concern was the coronavirus pandemic, and how it would affect upcoming competition.

Although there was optimism that next season could be held successfully, a task force was created comprising National Ski Associations, event organisers, rights holders, FIS officials and other stakeholders.

The task force will come up with contingency plans should travel restrictions and sport event organisation measures make it impossible to stage a typical World Cup season.

It will also define minimum requirements for a World Cup event to take place that is fair for competitors and nations.

Subsequently, the 2020-2021 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Cup calendars will be finalised at a later date.

Aside from the pandemic, a request was put forward to National Ski Associations by Committee chair Dean Gosper in agreement with FIS President Gian Franco Kaspar.

The request was to adjust future broadcast rights agreements to modified non-exclusive agreements, opening the potential for multiplatform simultaneous broadcasting and livestreaming in key markets.
