James Bond filmmaker to head Munich 2018 Olympic bid

November 6 - Former skier and James Bond filmmaker Willy Bogner (pictured) is to head Munich's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, it has been announced today.
Bogner, 67, will be the chairman of the bid committee from November 15, and will work alongside Richard Adam, the former head of the Bavarian Tourism Board, and Bernhard Schwank, the former Secretary General of the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), who will continue as managing directors.
Bogner competed in alpine skiing at the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley, leading the slalom after the first run but crashing out in the second.
In 1962 he won gold medals in alpine skiing's slalom and alpine combined event at the World Student Games and competed again for West Germany at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
He later inherited the Bogner clothes line from his father and worked as a cameraman in the skiing sequences of several James Bond movies, most notably a A View to a Kill.
The film was released in 1985, starring Roger Moore, and opens with the classic scene (pictured) that Bogner helped create.
He has also directed his own movie Fire and Ice.
Bogner was responsible for some film scenes used in Sochi's successful bid to land the 2014 Olympics.
The Bogner clothing brand is one of the most successful in Germany and also includes a range of sunglasses and cosmetics.
It is due to provide kit for Germany's team competing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, extending a relationship that stretches back to the Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 when they wore outfits designed by Bogner's father.
Bogner said: "Getting the 2018 Olympic to Munich is the biggest Olympic race I am allowed to compete in.
"The Olympics has played a huge role in my life."
Bogner will work for a symbolic salary of one Euro
Munich Mayor Christian Ude said: "Munich gets an internationally known and appreciated face."
Munich is one of three bidders for the 2018 Games and will face Annecy and Pyeongchang.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is due to announce its decision at its Session in Durban on July 6, 2011.
