Fran Williamson_20-03-12March 20 - Six-time Paralympic swimming medallist Fran Williamson (pictured) has begun her new role as a Paralympians' Club Ambassador at the British Paralympic Association (BPA).

Williamson's position will involve management of the Paralympians' Club, the BPA's online website that provides the public with information on retired and competing Paralympians and offers athletes particular services, such as access to the Adecco-run Athlete Career Programme, through the members' area.

The 26-year-old from Sunderland will also be responsible for promoting the club to the public and recruiting athletes who are not currently members to join the site.

"It is great news that Fran will be joining the BPA," BPA chief executive Tim Hollingsworth said.

"As a long-serving athlete, Fran is also keenly aware of how the BPA can best support the athletes, both retired and competing and I know she will bring that knowledge and expertise to her new role with us.

"I am confident that she will be a great support to the performance team and to the whole BPA staff."

A former swimmer, Williamson was born with cerebral palsy and won four silver and two bronze medals over two Paralympic Games at Athens in 2004 and at Beijing in 2008.

"I'm very excited to have started a new role with @ParalympicsGB as the new Paralympians Club Ambassador," Williamson tweeted.

"All Paralympians should join."

Williamson joins fellow retired British Paralympic athletes Caz Walton and Vicki Aggar on the staff at the BPA.
