zoltan-molnarOctober 19 - Double Olympic fencing champion Bence Szabo has been appointed as the new secretary general of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC) after former incumbent Zoltan Molnar resigned from the position earlier this month.

Molnar (pictured above) reportedly stepped down from the position following disagreements with HOC President Zsolt Borkai and the HOC Executive Board.

In London, Hungary won 17 medals, eight of which were gold, while their star performer was sprint canoer Danuta Kozák, who won two gold medals.

The nomination was approved by the HOC Executive Board unanimously meaning that Szabo, who won Olympic gold in fencing in Seoul in 1988 and the again in Barcelona in 1992, takes up the position with immediate effect.

"President Zsolt Borkai nominated Bence Szabo, sport director of the HOC to be the successor (to Szabo)," said an HOC statement.

"The nomination was approved by the HOC Executive Board unanimously.

"Consequently, Szabo is the new secretary general of the HOC as of October 12, 2012."
