JUNE 30 - WELSH First Minister Rhodri Morgan is set to ask Sebastian Coe officially today for the mountain biking event in the 2012 Olympics to be moved to Port Talbot.

Plaid Cymru last week claimed the event should be moved to Margam, near Port Talbot, in South Wales, because of continuing problems over finding a suitable venue in Essex.

Morgan will now use the opportunity of Coe visiting Wales today to press their claims.

But they will be rebuffed because, as insidethegames reported last week, a new site has been identified at Hadleigh Castle Country Park and it is expected to be officially confirmed by London 2012 and the International Cycling Federation (UCI) in the next few weeks.

The original course at Weald Country Park was rejected by the UCI because they did not consider it challenging enough for the world's top riders and an alternative at Colchester was ruled out for similar reasons.

But London 2012 have been determined to keep the event within a reasonable distance of the Olympic Village in East London to fulfil the criteria laid down by the International Olympic Committee that venues must be close to one another where possible.

Coe will be joined on his visit by senior figures from the Olympics 2012 and they will visit the new £32 million Cardiff International Pool, which is to be presented with a certificate as a pre-Games training camp.

The delegation, including Charles Allen, chair of the London 2012 Nations and Regions Group, is also to meet a Monmouthshire firm that has won a contract for a steel bridge in the Olympic Park.
