JUNE 29 - SCOTLAND will find out this September whether they will be called in as late hosts for the Euro 2012 football tournament.

Despite continued reassurances European governing body Uefa still have doubts about whether joint hosts Poland and Ukraine will be ready in time.

Scotland are one of several countries who have offered to step in at late notice if they are needed with Hampden Park (pictured), a proposed venue for the 2012 Olympic football tournament, as the centre-piece.

Michel Platini, the President of Uefa, said: "We gave them four months to pull their socks up.

"The only thing which would make me decide not to go there would be if there were no stadia in the two Capitals.

"Then there would be no tournament.

"We'll do everything we can to hold it there.

"There's no back-up plan."

Spain and Italy have also expressed an interest in coming to Uefa's rescue if they are needed.

Scotland are also considering a joint bid with Wales to bid for the 2016 European Championships.
