Three referees suspended after "suspicious officiating" in wrestling bout

United World Wrestling have announced that three referees have been suspended, following "suspicious officiating" during a men's 65kg quarter-final bout between Puerto Rico's Franklin Gomez and Uzbekistan's Ikhtiyor Mavruzov.

Temo Kazarashvilli of Georgia, Tong-Kun Chung of South Korea and Russia's and Sergei Novakoskiy have been removed from refereeing responsibilities pending investigation and face further sanction, UWW referee commission chairman Antonia Silvestri has announced.

As a consequence, the duo will not be on the field of play for tonight's final session.

The match and all circumstances surrounding the match are now subject of an investigation by the United World Wrestling Ethical Commission, with a full report set to be produced.

Uzbekistan's Ikhtiyor Mavruzov won the quarter-final match 8-5, earlier today. He was eliminated in the semi-finals by Russia's Soslan Ramonov, but could still win bronze.
