JUNE 28 - DWAIN CHAMBERS' (pictured) dream of competing in the Beijing Olympics moved a massive step closer today when he twice achieved the qualifying time he needed.

The 30-year-old Londoner clocked 10.14sec in his 100 metres heat - comfortably inside the 10.21 he needed - and then blasted to 10.06 to win the final.

That put Chambers put of this year's UK rankings alongside Tyrone Edgar.

Afterwards Chambers, the original face of London 2012, again insisted it is for his lawyers and not himself to take the necessary court action to lift the ban enabling him to gain clearance and compete in Beijing.

Currently he along with others who have committed anti-doping violations, is prevented by a BOA bylaw from ever again representing Team GB.

He said: "Now I've got the qualifier, I've just got to continue with my role which is competing and let the lawyers do their part.

"I've taken up this challenge and as I have said before, I would only do it because of my strong feelings how about how well I can run in the Olympic Games.

"I've matured a lot and I'd like to go on record in saying that I've made amends for my mistakes a long time ago, and now I'm proving that I can do it clean."

Chambers tested positive for the banned designer anabolic steroid Tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) in 2003.

He said: "I will always remain a clean athlete from here onwards.

"I've come of age now and I believe in what I say and I'm able to do the walking as well.

"That comes with age, experience and confidence.

"It's only a matter of time before I will be able to show what I can do when I get into the Olympic final."
