January 1 - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have announced the all-important qualification standards that Paralympic archers, including Britain's defending champion Danielle Brown (pictured), must meet in order to compete at London 2012.

There will be a total of nine medal events in the sport at the Games: five for men and four for women.

The events will be the Individual Compound  W1 (the only archery event competed in by men and not women); individual compound open; individual recurve W1/W2; individual recurve standing and team recurve open.

Each National Paralympic Committee (NPC) can be allocated a maximum of three qualification slots per sport class for a maximum quota allocation of 12 qualification slots per gender per NPC.

To be eligible for selection by an NPC, athletes must have achieved one of the following minimum qualification standards (MQS) for their respective sport class between today (January 1, 2010) and January 31, 2012, and be internationally classified with either 'review' or 'confirmed' sport class status.

In the case that Britain - as hosts -  has qualified three or less athletes in each gender, the International Archery Federation (FITA) will allocate qualification slot(s) to achieve one men's team comprised of three eligible male athletes for individual recurve events and one eligible male athlete for individual compound events.

FITA will also allocate qualification slot(s) to Britain to achieve one women's team comprised of two eligible female athletes for individual recurve events and one eligible female athlete for individual compound events.

Any slots remaining will be allocated in accordance with the FITA Para-Archery Qualification Tournament Allocation.

The key dates for each competing nation arrive in 2012 as by March 26, 2012, each NPC must confirm to FITA Para-Archery the number of qualification slots they will use or may lose the slots.

By April 9, 2012, FITA Para-Archery will confirm the reallocation of all unused qualification slots.

On the same day, it will be officially declared that the respective NPC's will use the allocated quota granted for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Any NPC that does not use some or all of the qualification slots allocated may be subject to sanctions by the IPC and FITA.

Brown, 21,  will be one of Britain's brightest hopes for a gold medal in 2012.

The Yorkshirewoman, who masterfully claimed gold at the Beijing 2008 Games, said: "I'm excited about the prospect of competing in front of a home crowd in 2012 and defending my title."
