January 12 - Jason Hellwig (pictured), the chairman of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Athletics Technical Committee, has been appointed as the acting chief executive of the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) following the resignation of Miles Murphy, it has been announced.

APC President Greg Hartung said Hellwig's advanced leadership qualities and knowledge of Paralympic sport made him a highly suitable candidate to fill the role while the recruitment process takes place.

As reported exclusively on insideworldparasport yesterday, Murphy had stood down as chief executive after only 14 months in the role to concentrate on outside business interests.

Hellwig  joined the APC in 2003 to head up its Sports Division and has also acted as director of operations for the 2004 and 2008 Australian Paralympic Games teams.

Hartung said: "Jason has an excellent understanding of the APC’s key business elements, and the structures necessary for continued success.

"The APC Board is confident in Jason’s ability to steer the organisation through the current transitional period, and we know he will be backed by the APC’s dedicated staff."
