January 29 – The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have given the Chinese City of Guangzhou a glowing review following a thorough project review carried out last week to access the preparations for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games which is set to take place in December.


The three day Project Review – which ended on January 22 2010 - focused specifically on venue planning, transportation and IT solutions for the Games.

A delegation from the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) headed by APC Secretary General Malini Rajasegaran led the Project Review.

Also in attendance was Apostolos Rigas, the IPC Head of Paralympic Games Strategic Projects alongside a group of experts from the IPC and APC on accessibility, sport and IT.

Following roundtable meetings, site visits and inspections, the APC delegation was able to review plans for the majority of the competition venues, Athletes’ Village and other sites of interest.

Additionally, the delegation was briefed about transportation plans and inspected the vehicles to be used for the event with a parallel meetings taking place on results, timing and scoring.

Following the review, Rigas stated: “We were able to have good understanding of current planning and provide valuable advice.

“There is genuine commitment from the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (GAPGOC) and Guangzhou authorities to address the few issues. identified.

“I truly believe that the 1st Asian Para Games will be a benchmark event, fostering the development of Paralympic Sport in the whole region”.
