January 29 - John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas (pictured) claimed silver medals in the Sonar event at the Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta today.

It left Britain joint fifth overall in the medal table in the Paralympic classes at the Regatta behind the United States, Canada, Norway and the Netherlands.

The British trio were beaten by Norway's Aleksander Wang-Hansen, Per Eugen Kristiansen and Marie Solberg, who grabbed gold after a low-scoring week.

America's Rick Doerr, Brad Kendall and Hugh Freund took the bronze.

Wang-Hensen said: "It's fantastic.

"We came here hoping for a medal.

"Everything went smoothly.

"We had a little bit of luck.

"We tacked on the shifts and suddenly we were up front."

But Britian's SKUD-18 world champions Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell missed out on a medal.

They went into the final day in bronze medal position, but indecision as to whether they were over the start-line early saw that slip from their grasp.

A protest for a start-line infringement against the Canadian boat helmed by John McRoberts and including Brenda Hopkins, could have boosted them back onto the podium, but the case was dismissed by the jury so the British pair were forced to settle for fourth.

The gold medal was won by America's Scott Whitman and Julia Dorsett, who held off team-mates Jen French and JP Creignou in only the second event they have sailed together.
