February 9 - ParalympicsGB have hosted a celebration event in Edinburgh for the 13 athletes who have been selected to represent Britain at the upcoming Paralympic Winter Games, which open next month.

The alpine ski team consisting of Sean Rose, Russell Docker, Talan Skeels-Piggins, Anna Turney, Jane Sowerby, Tim Farr and Kelly Gallagher - plus guide Claire Robb - attended the celebration alongside the curling team of Micheal McCreadie, Tom Killin, Angela Malone, James Sellar and Aileen Neilson.

The event, which was supported by Tier One London 2012 sponsor Lloyds TSB,  included a celebratory dinner and a wheelchair curling demonstration with McCreadie’s Paralympic team alongside Scotland's Minister for Public Health and Sport, Shona Robison.

Robison said: "I am delighted to see that so many Scottish athletes have been selected to compete as part of ParalympicsGB at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

"I would like to extend my congratulations to the athletes who have demonstrated outstanding effort and dedication in pursuit of personal excellence.

"Very few achieve the honour of being selected to represent their country on the international stage and I am sure all Scots will join with me in sending best wishes to all the sportsmen and women heading to Canada next month."

Many of the team were also in attended Scotland’s opening Six Nations rugby match against France at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Sunday but unfortunately saw the Scots downed 9-18 by the visitors.

The celebratory weekend was a final opportunity to wish the team well before they travel to Vancouver, Canada, to compete in the Games from March 12-21.
