March 31 - Leominster’s Sascha Kindred (pictured) was the stand-out performer on the third day of competition at the British Gas Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield as he smashed the S6 100 metres butterfly world record by almost five seconds. 



The six-time Paralympic gold medallist swam a superb race and finished strongly to touch in a time of 1min 11.75sec while Dave Ellis (S13) and James Hollis (S10) completed the podium places.

Earlier in the evening, Matthew Walker just managed to edge out 11-time Paralympic gold medallist Dave Roberts in the final of the men’s 50m freestyle.

Walker (S7) looked strong throughout the race and touched in a time of 28.29sec to score a total of 936 ranking points.

Roberts (S7) finished in a time of 29.47 to take silver with 828 points while the bronze was claimed by European champion Jonathan Fox (S7) with a time of 29.67 and a total of 811 points. 

In the women’s competition, world record holder Nyree Lewis (S6) put in a strong performance to win gold in the 100m backstroke final in a time of 1:28.28 and score a total of 954 points.
 
Stephanie Millward (S9) won silver behind Lewis with a total of 941 points after touching in a time of 1:10.73 and bronze was collected by Emma Cattle (S10) in 1:14.86 and 838 points.
