April 2 - A sell-out crowd at the British Gas Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield tonight witnessed two Paralympic world records fall in the same race as Jonathan Fox and James Crisp (pictured) both produced blistering times in the final of the men’s MD 100 metres backstroke.



Fox, a 19-year-old from Newquay, set a new record in the S7 disability category as he touched the wall in 1min 11.99sec to win gold while fellow competitor Crisp, who is based in Sheffield, smashed the world record in the S9 disability category in a time of 1:03.32 to take silver behind Fox. 

Fox earned 1,004 ranking points for the win while Crisp took 1,001 points for his world record breaking performance.

Bronze went to Thomas Young whose 1:08.58 earned him 905 points.

Fox said: "I want to try and go under 1:10.00 and get another world record."

After posting a new world record earlier in the week, Sascha Kindred was in action again in the 200m individual medley. 

Swimming in the SM6 category, Kindred took gold in a time of 2:46.51 to gain 924 points, with silver going to David Ellis (SM13) who touched in 2:23.81 to pick up 805 points.

Bronze was won by Jack Bridge (SM10) who finished in 2:29.48 with 701 points.

The women’s 200m individual medley final saw 17-year-old Eleni Papadopoulos (SM10) take gold in a time of 2:43.20 for 834 points.

Swansea’s Elizabeth Johnson, SM6, took silver with a time of 3:27.76 and 802 points while Emma Cattle from (SM10) winning bronze in a time of 2:46.36 and 788 points.
