April 3 - Athens 2004 Paralympic gold medallist Danny Greaves (pictured) sent an ominous warning to his rivals as he threw a lifetime best and unofficial world record of 56.50 metres in the F44 discuss at the Wexiö Indoor Throwing meeting in Växjö, Sweden.

Greaves, who picked up the bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics, was born with a foot deformity and currently holds the ratified world record in the F44 disability class of 55.53m.

Greaves throw of 56.50, however, will not make the official record books as the Wexiö event is not sanctioned by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

This is because the Swedish event, which first took place in 2009, is held in a huge indoor venue that enables throwers to compete in perfect conditions.

Even so, the 27-year-old was delighted with his performance in his first competitive event of the season and believes that his superb form is a result of the hard training he has put in during the off-season.

Greaves said: "It was a perfect competition for me.

"I’ve just returned from a period of warm weather training in Portugal where I was working on my throwing technique.

"Normally I wouldn’t have had the chance to compete so soon on my return but this event was a great opportunity to put all of that training into practice in a fun and relaxed environment.

"I knew I was in good shape and this has been a confidence booster ahead of the BT Paralympic World Cup in May.”

Greaves is set to compete in the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester on May 25 when the athletics competition will be held at Manchester Regional Arena.
