April 4 - Matt Cook (pictured), who was selected to represent Canada's sledge hockey team at last month's Paralympics in Vancouver before having to withdraw because of illness, has lost his fight against cancer at the age of 22.

He died in an Edmonton hopsital this morning.

Cook had been fighting the disease since he was first diaganosed with it four years ago.

He had previously played hockey to a good level but lost his leg four years ago to bone cancer.

Cook then took up sledge hockey and won a World Championship gold medal.

His cancer began to spread in 2008 and he was forced to pull-out of Canada's team for the Paralympics when he was diaganosed as being terminally ill.

His story inspired several people, including Canada women’s hockey goalie Shannon Szabados, a former teammate of Cook's in junior, taped FLM on the back of her mask: "Fight Like Matt".
