April 12 - The Paralympic Council of Ireland (PCI) have announced the appointment of Sinead McElroy (pictured) as Programmes Coordinator for London 2012.



McElroy, who will takes up her role at the PCI with immediate effect, joins the staff team following eight years experience at the Irish Sports Council.

During her time there, McElroy worked in a number of roles ranging from athlete performance services, anti-doping and the public relations departments. 

McElroy worked closely with PCI in the build up to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games coordinating PCI’s media service alongside communications officer John Fulham.

The role of Programmes Coordinator will cover four primary areas of work for the PCI. 

McElroy will provide assistance to the Paralympic Performance Director in designing and implementing the High Performance Programmes for squads and individual athletes leading to the 2012 London Paralympic Games. 

She will also lead in the three areas which the PCI will develop over the coming years, including classification, the development and implementation of a National Classification Strategy for Paralympic sports ensuring the PCI are compliant with the IPC Classification Code; education, the rollout of PCI’s education programme to heighten awareness of Paralympic sports in Ireland, specifically targeting schoolchildren; and events, the planning, delivery and evaluation of PCI events.

A PCI statement said: "We welcome Sinead McElroy to the organisation and wish her the very best as she begins her career in Paralympic Sport."
