Now Robin Mitchell, Acting President of ANOC, has stepped up to speak.

And this is what he has to say:

"Welcome to the first ever ANOC World Beach Games!

"It is my great privilege to be here today for the inaugural edition of this exciting new multisport event.

"I would like to begin by thanking our outstanding hosts – the State of Qatar, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and the Qatar Olympic Committee – for their warm and welcoming hospitality.

"You have been excellent partners and we are very grateful for your support, dedication and hard work.

"As I am sure everyone has seen, the facilities here in Doha are of a very high standard.

"This is the outcome of all the work the Organising Committee has put in, in just three short months.

"We have no doubt that these facilities will provide an excellent environment for athletes to compete at their very best over the coming days."

He went on to praise and highlight the athletes present.

"We are thrilled to have over 1,200 athletes from 97 countries here with us in Qatar.

"You, the athletes, are at the heart of these Games.

"This is an international platform for you to showcase your skill and entertain people around the world.

"You are the world’s best athletes and we have no doubt you will put on an amazing show over the next four days."

Mitchell finished on a rising note.

"Ladies and gentlemen, together we are making history.

"This is the first, and only, truly global festival of beach, water and action sports.

"And we believe that this innovative new multisport concept is helping NOCs connect with new sports, new stars and a new generation of sports fans for the first time.

"I wish all you athletes and NOCs the very best of luck and a successful and enjoyable stay in Qatar."
