April 26 - Top sports figures and television personalities are due to take to ski slopes across Britain next month in aid of Disability Snowsport UK's (DSUK) national ski-a-thon.

The event, which is due to be held on May 18, will take place simultaneously in six venues to raise money for skiers with disabilities.

Among those due to take part are five-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave, Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards and Heather Hills, who will be aiming to complete the required 666 runs per team in just six hours.

Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities will hit the slopes for DSUK, which enables people with disabilities to ski alongside able-bodied skiers.

Amongst those taking part are soldiers who have been seriously injured during service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Our team have all benefitted from learning to ski, despite the loss of limbs," said Sally Mendonca from the Combined Services Disabled Ski Team, which has entered two squads into the event.

"They are delighted to be taking part in the DSUK ski-a-thon and consider it to be an amazing charity which helps people with all disabilities to experience the thrill of skiing."

DSUK also supports the British Disabled Ski Team (BDST), the international racing arm of the charity who has recently arrived back from the 2010 Paralympic Games.

"Many thanks to all those who are taking part and are contributing to the success of the ski-a-thon," said Sean Rose, Britain's top disabled skier.

"DSUK supports skiers across the board, from grass-root beginners to elite GB racers.

"The charity continues to provide snowsports experiences to people with all disabilities.

"It is life changing for some, a feeling of independence for others and a thrilling adventure for everyone.

"DSUK also scouts for talented new members to join the national team, who one day could fly down a race course representing their country.

"For me it does not get much better than that."
