May 13 - Canada's Paralympic gold-medal curler Jim Armstrong (pictured) pleaded not guilty to trafficking charges today in a United States District Court in Seattle.

Armstrong, a 59-year-old from Richmond, who was the skip on Canada’s gold-medal winning team in Vancouver in March, is charged with selling and dispensing counterfeit Viagra and Cialis pills.

The retired dentist was arrested April 15 after allegedly picking up a package of counterfeit drugs from a post office box in Blaine, Washington.

The package was addressed to Armstrong’s late wife and was intercepted by customs officials in Los Angeles, police say.

Mailed from China, it was marked "health products".

When officials opened the package, they found nearly 3,000 fake Viagra and Cialis pills, police say.

Armstrong is free on bail; his trial is scheduled for July 6 in Seattle.

Armstrong’s son Gregory, 28, is also named in the indictment and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Armstrong and his son face up to 10 years in jail and a $2-million (£1.3 million) US fine if found guilty.
