May 16 - Double Paralympic champion David Weir (pictured) and Beijing 2008 double Paralympic medallist Shelly Woods both returned to winning ways after their duel disappointments at this years London Marathon as the two claimed easy victories at the Great Manchester Run.

Both Weir and Woods were strongly tipped to win the men’s and women’s  London Marathon wheelchair races respectively last mont,h however, after displaying impressive early form in the race in the capital, both were denied the chance to win due to picking up punctures to their tyres.

However, the wheelchair racing duo dominated their respective 10 kilometre wheelchair races in Manchester to head into the BT Paralympic World Cup at the end of the month in top form.

Weir won in 22min ahead of Mark Telford and Brian Alldis while Woods recorded a time of 25min 15sec to see off second-placed Hannah Cockroft and Kenyan-born Anne Strike who finished in third.

Weir told insideworldparasport: "I was really pleased with the race and even though it was very windy, I felt in great form and I feel like I am back to my best again.

"I was obviously disappointed after a punctured tyre cost me the win in London so I decided to use a heavier tyre here which meant I had to work a lot harder work on the road.

"I haven’t decided yet what tyre I will use in the future so I will try out a few different ones in training until I find one that I am happy with.

"I know which tyre I will be using on the track and I am very confident of doing well at the BT Paralympic World Cup next week but it is now just about working out what works for me on the road."

Woods, who will also feature at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester next week, said: "It’s good to come back here and win again and at least the weather was better than last year when it poured with rain."
