May 28 - Ireland secured a spot against the Netherlands in the football seven a-side final tomorrow in their first ever appearance at the BT Paralympic World Cup with a fine 2-1 victory over Britain at the Manchester Regional Arena.

Ireland took an early lead after Jason Moran grabbed a goal after just four minutes.

Gary Messett then doubled the Irish’s lead shortly after half time to make it 2-0.

Britain however, replied immediately as Matt Dimbylow scored to ensure a tense finish.

They did make chances in the final minutes but the home side were unable to finish them meaning that they will play the United States tomorrow in the bronze medal match.

Messet told insideworldparasport: "We had a very tough much today but we played really well like we have done all tournament.

"With the form we are in, I fancy our chances against the Dutch and, if we go on to win this BT Paralympic World Cup, it would mean the world to me and the rest of the boys."

A despondent Britain manager Jeff Davis said: "This is a great tournament with a fantastic crowd and fantastic facilities but we are just not performing in it.

"We are not a bad side but we just haven’t played well here and hopefully we can come away with a bronze medal tomorrow to end the tournament on a high."

In the day’s first match, the Netherlands demolished the US with a 5-0 win with the prolific Iijas Visker scoring a stunning hat-trick.

The three goals take Visker’s tally for the tournament to an astonishing seven goals in just three games.

He is now the tournaments top scorer with seven goals with Ireland’s Messett who has four.

Visker said: "I am delighted to have got a hat-trick today.

"This is my first international tournament with the team and to score a hat-trick is very special.

"The USA are a good, physical team and they had their chances, but I think we deserved to win.

"We played good football throughout the game.

"The fans here at the BT Paralympic World Cup were great today and there seemed like there were a lot more watching than our previous games.

"I think we have a good chance to go on now and win this tournament, especially after this performance."
