June 29 - A team of gaming experts, including one of the designers who worked on Tomb Raider, have worked alongside Stoke Mandeville Stadium and students from Chalfonts Community College in Buckinghamshire to develop a new interactive on-line game which aims to teach children around the world about the Paralympics.

The game, which was inspired by the Paralympics and the story of Stoke Mandeville, is based on wheelchair basketball and raises players' awareness of the physical and psychological strength required by Paralympians as well as some of the barriers that disabled athletes must overcome in order to compete at a world-class level.

The game will be available to play through the Create Compete Collaborate (CCC) programme and Accentuate websites from the end of next month and will enable young people from all over the world to play against one another.

The game will be launched on July 13 at an event at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Greg Hodgson, a senior leader at Chalfonts Community College described the project as "the most significant learning project I’ve ever been involved with."

The game will by launched by Gaming! who are part of Accentuate.

Accentuate is a transformational programme of 15 projects inspired by the Paralympic Movement that seeks to change perceptions and offer opportunities to showcase the talents of deaf and disabled people.

Accentuate is funded by Legacy Trust UK which is creating a cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the regional cultural agencies.
