July 9 - Britain men’s team continued their strong form at the World Wheelchair Basketball Championships with an impressive 65-45 win over European champions Italy at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham.



In their third outing of the tournament, the hosts overpowered their Italian opposition from the start and established a healthy first half lead 37-16.

The deficit proved too much for Italy to recover from and despite a spirited third quarter, Britain ended the game winning comfortably by 20 points.

Jon Pollock was again the standout player for Britain as he top scored with 18 points while claiming 11 assists.

In the opening game of day three, Germany’s women secured an 88-50 win over China with Marina Mohnen and Gesche Schunemann scoring well.

The first men’s match of the day was a close encounter between France and Mexico that saw Mexico run out narrow 57-54 victors. 

Reigning women's Paralympic champions United States recorded their second win of the Championships with a convincing 66-24 victory over Brazil while the United States men saw off Poland in a relatively straight forward 83-34 win to record a second successive victory of the Championships.

Meanwhile, the reigning men's Paralympic champions Australia beat Turkey with 66-54 win in a competitive game.

Canada, the reigning world champions in both the men’s and women’s event, enjoyed another successful day in Birmingham. 

Canada’s women narrowly beat The Netherlands 58-54 in a hard fought  pool A game while the men’s side beat Algeria with a convincing 87-61 win.

In the days other match, Japan beat South Korea by a comfortable 16 points with a 71-55 win.
