July 10 - Jadranka Kosor, the Prime Minister of Croatia, will be attending the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Championships in Zagreb next week where she will be giving a welcoming speech to all of the athletes.

The event, which takes place from July 16-24, will see a total of 247 athletes from 43 countries in attendance and competing for glory at the impressive Vrapčanski Potok Shooting Range.

Kosor will be joined at the Opening Ceremony by IPC President Sir Philip Craven, the Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandic and the President of the Croatian Paralympic Committee (CPC) Ratko Kovačic.

Sir Philip revealed that the IPC is looking forward to having the 2010 IPC Shooting World Championships in Croatia as a stepping stone towards the London 2012 Paralympics.

He said: "It will be a great opportunity for athletes with a disability in Croatia to see elite competition in their own country.

"It will build further anticipation toward the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which will see Shooting on the competition roster."

South Korea is taking the biggest delegation of athletes to Zagreb with a total of 15, though they are closely followed by Britain who are travelling to Croatia with 14 athletes.

There will be events in two classes (SH1 and SH2) meaning that there are a total of 31 medal events consisting of 17 individual and 14 team.

Organised by the CPC, the Championships are the first World Championships in a sport for athletes with a disability to be held in the country.
