August 4 - More than 400,000 people have pre-registered their interest in buying tickets for the London 2012 Paralympics, leading organisers to predict that the Games will be the most successful in history.

London 2012 launched its tickets "Sign Up" programme in March this year whereby people are able to register their interest in purchasing tickets for the 2012 Games and specify which sports they are interested in watching.

More than a million people have already registered their interest in purchasing tickets for the London 2012 Games via the scheme with nearly half claiming they would also be interested in going to the Paralympics.

Athletics, swimming and wheelchair basketball are the three most popular sports that the public are interested in according to figures based on those who have registered on Sign Up.

Piers Jones, London 2012 Paralympic Sport Manager, is encouraged by the interest.

He said: "We are delighted to see the amount of interest there is in purchasing tickets for the London Paralympic Games with over 400,000 people having registered their interest in attending the Games since the ‘Sign Up’ programme was launched in March.

"We expect this number to increase as we move closer to allocating tickets for the Games and I believe the London 2012 Paralympics will be one of the greatest Paralympics Games of all time."

Last month Chris Holmes, the London 2012 Director of Paralympic Integration, told insideworldparasport that he is confident that all two million tickets for the Paralympics will be sold.

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe added: "It should come as no surprise that the British public is so enthused by the prospect of world class sport coming to these shores, but it is pleasing to see that some of the lesser-known Olympic and Paralympic sports are also set to be well supported."

Of the one million plus who have entered their details into the ‘Sign Up’ programme, 4,000 of who signed up within the first hour of the scheme being launched, 96 per cent of registrations have come from UK residents with 32 per cent of registrations coming from Greater London, 27 per cent coming from the South East and 41 per cent coming from the rest of the UK.
