August 26 - International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge (pictured left) has promised that his organisation would support the creation of a Youth Paralympic Games but stated that any decision made on such an event would need to be made by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games came to an end here tonight with a spectacular Closing Ceremony on the world’s largest floating stage in Marina Bay.

The event, which is credited as being the brainchild of Rogge, has widely been considered a huge success leading to calls for a Youth Paralympic Games or a number of Paralympic events to be added to the Youth Olympic Games programme.

Rogge said: "Well as you know, the International Paralympic Committee is totally autonomous.

"The Paralympic Committee does not take direction from the International Olympic Committee.

"We work very closely with them and we give them great support

"[In the past] we gave them the name Paralympic [to illustrate the bond with Olympic] and we asked the Games organisers to organise the Paralympic Games immediately after the senior Olympic Games so we give big support to the International Paralympic Movement.

"But it is up to them to decide what they want to do"

Rogge also dismissed reports that the IOC is currently in talks regarding a Youth Paralympics.

He said: "We have not discussed this with them [the IPC]."
