August 26 - Sarah Storey (pictured) has become the second Paralympic champion to be picked by England to compete at this year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

The 32-year-old from Manchester, who begun her career as a swimmer before switching to cycling, has been selected to ride in the individual pursuit in the Indian capital.

She joins Danielle Brown, the Paralympic archery gold medallist, who it was announced in June had been chosen by England to compete in the compound event in Delhi.

Brown and Storey, who was born with a deformed left hand, will be the first ever disability athletes to represent England in an able-bodied event at the Commonwealth Games.

Storey said: "I’m so excited to be selected for Team England, it’s such an amazing opportunity for me to race the world’s best pursuiters and I can’t wait to get stuck in."

It is an important step for Storey who has set herself the target of representing Britain at both the Paralympics and Olympics in London 2012.

That would be another remarkable chapter in an already remarkable story.

Storey started as a swimmer, winning two golds, three silvers and a bronze at the Paralympics in Barcelona in 1992 at 14.

She continued swimming in the next three Paralympic Games - winning another 10 medals, including three gold - before switching to cycling in 2005.

She has  proved to be just as successful at that, winning two gold medals in the velodrome at Beijing in 2008.

Earlier this month she won two titles at the UCI World Paracycling Road Championships in Baie-Comeau, Canada, the road race and the time trial.

The Commonwealth Games are due to be opened by Prince Charles on October 3.
