September 20 - Canada and Great Britain are set to go head to head in a mouth-watering clash tomorrow that will open the 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Richmond, Canada.

The sold-out match will pit two of the world’s top teams of the world together in a vital game for both sides should they which to progress much further in the event.

Canada, the Beijing 2008 Paralympic bronze medallists, will undoubtedly be confident playing in front of a home crowd but the team is set to face tough competition for the title from the reigning Paralympic champions and top seeds the United States as well as silver medallists Australia.

The 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships, which will feature 12 competing nations, were awarded to Vancouver in early 2008 after presenting a very strong, well-executed bid to the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation that was supported by several organisations including national, provincial and local Governments and tourism commissions.

The competition will run from tomorrow until September 26 at the Richmond Olympic Oval, which hosted speed skating during the Winter Olympics earlier this year.

With more than 27 countries participating in the game worldwide, wheelchair rugby is often referred to as the fastest growing wheelchair sport in the world today.
