September 22 - Britain have fallen out of medal contention at the 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Richmond after two battling defeats to Sweden and the United States respectively.

The team first faced Sweden in a tight game that was decided in the final seconds.

Britain, who lost to Canada yesterday in the opening game of the tournament, were down by a point with time virtually up when their star player Mandip Sehmi passed the ball to Ross Morrison.

However, the pass went just wide giving a young Swedish team a 46-45 victory.

Sehmi said: "It was a tough game.

"Another pass would have made the difference.

"It’s just unfortunately really but we showed a lot of character coming back the way we did."

In their second match of the day, Britain put up a brave performance against the US but were ultimately outclassed by the defending world and Paralympic champions as they lost 54-45.

There was fantastic news for hosts Canada as they battled past Finland 55-46 in their first match of day two before beating Germany 47-39 in the evening session.

Canada used a little girl power for their victories as a lineup featuring Miranda Biletski and Erika Schmutz helped the Beijing 2008 Paralympic bronze medalists to maintain their unbeaten run at the competition.

Biletski said: "This is my first major tournament.

"I’m the baby of the group, so I get a little sheltered by the boys.

"It’s an awesome, an amazing experience."

Schmutz added: "This is my first World Championships and to have it here in Vancouver is amazing: the fans, the support, the people, having family here.

"Everyone is here to play and everyone is here to win.

"No one wants to go home losing."

In the days other games, Belgium defeated New Zealand 53-45 while Argentina suffered their second defeat as they went down 65-25 to Poland.

The action at the Richmond Olympic Oval continues tomorrow with the top three seeds, US, Australia and Canada all set to be in action.
