September 29 - Tabo Huntley (pictured) has been given the chance to lead Britain's women goalball team to the London 2012 Paralympics despite the country's poor performance at the World Championships in Sheffield earlier this year which led to him resigning as the sport's performance director.

Huntley stepped down as the women's team, who were one of the favourites after being crowned European champions last year, finished only 11th out of 12 teams while the men finished last of the 16 teams in their competition amid criticism of his coaching methods.

But he has been given another chance with the women's team, who he had led to that European triumph in Munich.

Knut Kursawe, Germany's former coach, has meanwhile been hired as head coach for the men's team.

Goalball UK have been reviewing their coaching model since Sheffield and the infrastructure required, to ensure that they are on track to put in their best possible performance in 2012.

The additional resources will provide a key boost to the squad, at a crucial time for the sport in the lead up to the Games, they claimed.

Lois Whittaker, the chief executive for Goalball UK said: "This is an exciting time for all Paralympic sports and Goalball UK is fully committed to supporting the staff and players and leaving a lasting legacy beyond London 2012."
