October 1 - Britain dominated the opening day of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Cup at Stoke Mandeville winning six of the seven gold medals on offer with Matt Skelhon getting them off to the perfect start.

The first event of the day was a falling target competition, similar to the shooting discipline in biathlon, where the first competitor has 2.5 minutes to hit five discs.

In the SH1 category, Britain won two medals with with Skelhon claiming gold and Karen Butler bronze.

Lotta Helsinger of Sweden won silver.

Skelhon said: "It’s a great feeling to win the first medal at a disability shooting event held in Britain.

"The fact that it’s a gold makes it even more satisfying.

"I hope that this will be the first of many at this event for the Great Britain team.”

The second falling target (SH2) competition was again dominated by Britain, with all four finalists coming from the host nation.

In a closely fought final Adam Fontain emerged victorious with James Bevis winning silver and Georgina Callingham bronze.

Di Coates (pictured) won the gold in the R2 air rifle standing event for women with Helsinger in second place for her second silver of the day and Norway's Monica Lillehagen took the bronze.

Coates, who has competed in sevens Paralympic Games said: "I am fully focused in my attempt to compete in my eighth Paralympics in 2012.

"This event has given all of the GB team a taste of what it will be like to compete in a top level event on home soil."

In the R1 10m air rifle standing competition for men, Nathan Milgate came first with Austria's Werner Muller and Germany's Norbert Gau in second and third place respectively.
