October 2 - London Marathon champion Josh Cassidy is to use a series of photographs taken in Newcastle and Gateshead as part of a new publicity campaign to boost his profile in the build-up to the London 2012 Paralympics.

The Canadian had a series of shots done when he visited the North East of England last month when he took part in the Tyne Tunnel 2K wheelchair race, a race he won.

Cassidy, 25, has been a regular visitor to the area in recent times, taking part in the Great North Run on three occasions, as well as the Tyne Tunnel event.

He used his latest visit to pose for photographs at Newcastle's Swan House roundabout and the 55 Degrees North, a redundant 1960’s office block that has been turned into an award-winning residential development.

"I’ve been coming to Newcastle for four years now to compete in the Tunnel 2K, and the Great North Run," said Cassidy.

"I’ve enjoyed my experiences here every time, from great race performances, to enjoying the beautiful countryside and city of Newcastle and Gateshead.

"It was just a perfect fit to get photos done here.

"Not only is it convenient, but the location is a favourite of mine.

"It is dear to me and I look forward to my yearly return.”

Cassidy's agent David Burdus is from Corbridge in Northumberland.

The Canadian record holder for the 1500, 5,000 and 10,000 metres won the Great North Run in 2008.

"It is through these events that I met my agent David who has helped raise my profile," said Cassidy, who was born with neuroblastoma, cancer in the spine and abdomen..

"I think the images look amazing and we couldn’t have chosen a better location."
