October 2 - Canada's Paralympic skier Andrea Dziewior is at the centre of a police investigation after a road rage incident which she claims has left her badly shaken.

Dziewior alleges she was driving home from work in Nanaimo, British Columbia, last Tuesday (September 28) when she claims she was threatened, followed and angrily confronted by three men on motorcycles who surrounded and beat on her car.

Dziewior, a 24-year-old skier whose left leg is amputated above the knee, says the altercation began when she made a driving error on the Nanaimo Parkway.

The Toronto-born athlete, who now lives in Nanaimo, said she was driving when she was distracted by two motorcyclists speeding up behind her. In an instant, she said, she realised she was too close to the motorcyclist in front of her and stepped on the brakes.

"I panicked a little when I saw them speeding up behind me," said Dziewior.

The athlete said the two riders were visibly frustrated and started to yell, tailgate and flash their lights.

Dziewior said they pulled up on either side of her car, which left her to drive down the centre line.

She said she hoped they would leave her alone when she turned up another street.

But the three bikers surrounded her at a red light and proceeded to bang on her car and shout profanities including, "We’re going to follow you home and teach you a lesson, b—-," she said.

"I was scared for my personal safety."

She said she finally pulled over on the side road and got out of her car to confront the riders, whom she describes as being between 50 to 65 years old.

"I was thinking ’I’ll be dammed if I’m going to play victim,’" said Dziewior, adding she was backed up against her car by one of the men who shouted at her, inches from her face, before another rider pulled him back.

Dziewior flagged down a driver who called police.

Nanaimo Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Gary O’Brien said the incident was dealt with at the scene.

But Dziewior is not happy with that conclusion and plans to press charges against the three men.

"I can’t believe they were allowed to leave without any consequences," she said.
