Malaysia flagNovember 10 - The Malaysia Paralympic Council (MPC) has been given major a boost ahead of the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou next month after receving a RM100,000 (£20,000/$32,000) sponsorship from the Japanese Chamber of Trade and Industry Malaysia (JACTIM).

The JACTIM has been one of MPC's major sponsors since 2003, giving a total RM920,000 (£185,000/$297,000) worth of sports equipment until 2009.

MPC President Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin said the latest grant will help them purchase more equipment for athletes which will not only be utilised during the Asian Para Games but in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.

Zainal said Malaysia's target is finish in the top 10 among 40 countries in Guangzhou.

"We finished fourth in the 2006 FESPIC (The Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled) Games as hosts but the Asian Para Games will be tougher," he said.

"JACTIM has been our long-term partner and their latest funding is timely as we can have more equipment in helping our athletes' preparations."
