France_celebrate_success_at_World_Skiing_Championships_January_19_2011January 19 - French skiers showed they were in top form on the slopes in Sestriere as they picked up four medals, two of which were gold, in the Super Combined race at the 2011 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Championships.

The shock of the competition so far came when France's Vincent Gauthier-Manuel held off German powerhouse Gerd Schoenfelder by 1.75sec to take the gold medal in the men's standing event.

For once, multiple Paralympic champion Schoenfelder had to settle for silver and Switzerland's Thomas Pfyl for his third bronze medal of the competion.

Solene Jambique won another gold for France in the women's standing event with a time of 2min 21.94sec, as she held off Germany's Andrea Rothfuss and Canada's Karolina Wisniewska respectively.

Jambique said: "The skis in Super-G are very long and that makes it a bit more difficult but I did really well in the Slalom part of Super Combined today which helped my time a lot."

Meanwhile, French pair Cyril More and Yohann Taberlet finished just behind Japan's Takeshi Suzuki to claim silver and bronze medals respectively in the men's sitting event and round off a fantastic day for the country.
