sarah_storeyFebruary 16 - Britain's double Beijing 2008 gold medallist Sarah Story (pictured) is set to lead a strong team at the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships as British Cycling announced the 16 riders who will be competing at the event in Montichari in Italy from March 11-13.

The 33-year-old from Manchester, who claimed five Paralympic golds as a swimmer before switching to cycling, is one of seven Paralympic champions named alongside Mark Bristow, Jody Cundy, Anthony Kappes, Darren Kenny, Aileen McGlynn and husband Barney Storey.

As well as the magnificent seven, double World Champion Neil Fachie will be travelling to Italy along with a handful of promising London 2012 hopefuls including World Championship debutants Tel Byrne and Jon-Allan Butterworth, ex-servicemen who have joined the GB Para-Cycling Team through the Battle Back programme.

Team manager Gareth Sheppard said: "We have selected a very strong squad as this is the first of only two track competitions at which our team will be able to score qualification points for the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

"We expect to see some strong performances from our riders and our goal is to bring back as many medals as possible to help us qualify a satisfactory number of athletes for track events at the London Games.

"These World Championships will be an important marker of the squad's performance and a great opportunity for some of our younger athletes hoping to ride for Britain in 2012 to gain competition experience at the highest level."

The team in full is: Mark Bristow (C5, Kilo), Jon-Allan Butterworth (C5, Kilo and Pursuit), Tel Byrne (C4, Kilo and Team Sprint), Jody Cundy (C4, Pursuit, Kilo and Team Sprint), Neil Fachie with pilot Craig MacLean (B/Vi, Kilo and Tandem Sprint), Anthony Kappes with pilot Barney Storey (B/Vi, Pursuit, Kilo and Tandem Sprint), Darren Kenny (C3, Kilo, Pursuit and Team Sprint), Aileen McGlynn with pilot Helen Scott (B/Vi, Kilo and Pursuit), Shaun McKeown (C3, Pursuit), Sarah Storey (C5, Pursuit and 500mTT), Lora Turnham with pilot Fiona Duncan (B/Vi, Kilo and Pursuit) and Rik Waddon (C3, Kilo, Pursuit and Team Sprint).
