Paralympics_GB_logoMarch 8 - ParalympicsGB have officially begun their search for a new £80,000-a-year ($129,350) chief executive following the surprise departure of Phil Lane.

An advertisement for the role posted on our sister website, www.insidethegames.biz, states that the successful candidate will be responsible for a team of 22 staff and work with the ParalympicsGB Board to set the future strategic direction of the organisation.

Lane stepped down from the post last month after 10 years in charge with just 18 months to go to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The job advertisement states: "The British Paralympic Association (BPA), brand name ParalympicsGB, is looking for an exceptional, high-performing chief executive.

"The BPA is responsible for selecting, preparing, entering, funding and managing Britain's teams at the Paralympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games.

"We are looking for a candidate with the long-term vision to take us from London (2012) to Sochi (2014) on to Rio (2016) and beyond.

"Our mission is to use the power of the Games to deliver lasting change in Paralympic sport in Great Britain through exceptional performance: by the ParalympicsGB team on the field of play; in the management of the ParalympicsGB team; in the presentation of the ParalympicsGB team and in the promotion of the ParalympicsGB team; therefore inspiring change in the way people think, feel and behave.

"As chief executive officer you will lead this mission and will need flexibility in combining visionary, strategic leadership with strong entrepreneurial skills to consolidate the commercial future of the BPA and meticulous management of day-to-day financial and operational issues.

"You will demonstrate proven leadership experience and the commercial acumen necessary to develop an organisation in the sporting and not-for-profit environment.

"You will need to act in the best interests of the BPA and have experience in managing stakeholder relationships, ensuring that our strategic partnerships with sponsors and external bodies are maintained to a high standard.

"You will work with international partners to ensure that we continue to be a leader in the Paralympic movement and influence best practice worldwide."

The new chief executive will be based primarily at the ParalympicsGB headquarters at 60 Charlotte Street in central London, although overseas travel will be required.

The closing date for applications is March 29 with the first interviews taking place on April 11 in London.

Tim Reddish, chairman of ParalympicsGB, believes that with the lure of the London 2012 Paralympic Games around the corner, the position is a hugely attractive and exciting one to take on.

"This is an exciting time for ParalympicsGB and the Paralympic sport movement," he said.

"ParalympicsGB will be implementing a recruitment strategy to identify Phil's successor to lead the organisation through to 2016 and beyond."

Lane served as Chef de Mission of Great Britain's Paralympic team at the last four Paralympic Games, leading them to second-placed finishes in the medal tables at both Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

It is therefore considered likely the new chief executive will be named the Chef de Mission of Great Britain's Paralympic team at London 2012.
