paralympic_basketballMarch 10 - Leading disability charity Papworth Trust are set to launch a new Paralympics inspired fundraising campaign on March 15, 500 days before the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, to raise £2,012 ($3,224) by 2012.

Papworth Trust helps over 17,000 people each year through a wide range of services covering employment, vocational rehabilitation, housing, personal support, learning for life and work.

They run these services in Cambridge, Bedfordshire, Huntingdon, Sawston, Peterborough, Papworth Everard and across the East of England.

The Paralympics-inspired fundraising campaign has been backed by Great Britain wheelchair basketball player Lee Manning, who is supported by the trust.

"With the Trust's help, I hope I will be flying the flag for Britain at the 2012 Paralympics," said the 20-year-old.

"Papworth Trust already works with over 20,000 people each year in the East of England.

"With your help, every pound raised will support even more disabled people to achieve their goals.

"I couldn't do what I do without the help and sponsorship of the Papworth Trust.

"It's not just money, I know that if I needed anything else they would do their best to help me."

The trust's Paralympics Fund offers grants of between £250 ($400) and £500 ($800) to help disabled athletes pay for expensive training and living costs in the run up to 2012.

A total of £2,000 ($3,207) will be available in 2010/11 and the same amount in 2011/12.

Individuals or teams have a variety of ways to try to raise £2,012 ($3,224).

The Trust has put together an A-Z of fundraising ideas at www.papworth.org.uk/2012, where you can also register your interest in taking part and find other resources.
