John_MacLean_with_Kathryn_RossApril 30 - One of Australia's most accomplished athletes John Maclean has marked his return to rowing by earning selection on the Australian adaptive team for their international tour.

Maclean, who won silver at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games with Kathryn Ross in the adaptive trunks and arms double scull, returns to partner Ross after more than two years away from the sport.

Maclean and Ross will travel to compete at the Varese International Regatta on 14-15, before competing at World Cup in Munich, Germany from May 27-29.

Leading up to Australia's selection trials, Ross had been rowing with Grant Bailey, who earned bronze with her at the World Championships in New Zealand last November.

But a back injury to Bailey subsequently saw him step away from the boat about a fortnight before the trials.

Despite the change, the Canberra-based Ross was pleased that there was a suitable replacement.

She was looking forward to competing with Penrith's Maclean again on an international stage.

"John and I are like an old glove," she said.

"It just fits.

"Everything works and we just know what each other is thinking or doing.

"We don't have to say anything in the boat because we just know what to do."

The pair's ultimate aim is to grab gold at the 2012 London Paralympic Games after they missed out on the main prize in Beijing by only 0.89 of a second, being pipped on the line by China.

Ben Houlison and Eric Horrie will compete in the adaptive arms only single scull at both regattas.

Houlison has been selected in Australia's world championship team for the past two seasons, winning a bronze medal in 2009.

Horrie is a relative newcomer to the sport, only getting in a boat for the first time just under a year ago, but has already shown great promise.

Australia's adaptive crews for the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia (August 28-September 4) will be named later in the year.
