In total, Britain claimed six golds, three silvers and a bronze medal at the event but it was the women who led the way.

Multiple Paralympian gold champion Sarah Storey claimed two gold medals with victories in the C5 road race and time trial events before Paralympic champion Rachel Morris repeated the double gold medal winning performance in the same events in the H3 handbike category.

Paralympic and world champion David Stone was the standout performer for the British men as he produced excellent rides on his new trike in the T2 road race and time trial, matching Storey's and Morris' achievement of winning two gold medals.

There were also some great wins for up and coming riders with handcyclist Karen Darke delivering her best to date result to pick up silver in the H2 road race and time trial.

Lora Turnham, piloted by Fiona Duncan, rode to silver in the B/Vi time trial and to bronze in the road race to mark a great start to the road season for the new pairing and bring Britain a fantastic haul of ten medals.

Chris Furber, the GB Para-Cycling head coach, said: "We have seen some strong performances from our riders in the last few days and it's particularly pleasing to see Karen Darke win two silvers and the new pairing of Lora Turnham and Fiona Duncan on podium against a world class field.

"We have exceeded our qualification points target for both men and women, which puts is in a good place ahead of the second round of the event in Spain next month, where competition will be even tougher."

The GB Para-Cycling team are beginning to establish themselves as the team to beat at the London 2012 Paralympics after they won 18 medals at the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Italy in March, ranking first in the medal table.

This week's Para-Cycling Road World Cup in Sydney opened the road racing season which continue in Spain next month and in Canada in July, acting as a qualifying series for the 2011 Para-Cycling Road World Championships which will be held in Denmark on September 8-11.
