John_Robertson_Hannah_Stodel_and_Steve_Thomas_05-09-11September 5 - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced its shortlist for August's Athlete of the Month Award with five eligible for the prestigious award.

Britain's sonar sailing team of John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas lead the list of nominations after becoming the first set of athletes to be selected for the London 2012 Paralympics following their fourth place finish at the Sonar Open World Championships, as well as their seventh place finish at the Sonar Open European Championships - both of which are able-bodied competitions.

Next on the list is Ellie Cole of Australia, who won six gold medals at the Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Edmonton, Canada, and South Korea's Jeong Ho Won, who maintained his number one world ranking with a first-place finish in the BC3 class at the Boccia World Cup in Ireland last month.

Christine Selinger of Canada also makes the shortlist after winning a gold and a silver medal at last month's Para-Canoe World Championships, while Abílio Valente from Portugal is the final nomination on the list after he defeated world champion Nigel Murray in the BC2 class at the Boccia World Cup to take home gold despite being previously unranked.

The public has until midnight on Wednesday (September 7) to vote for who they think had the best performance last month on the Parasport scene.

The winner will follow on from Danielle Brown after Britain's three-time medallist at the Para-Archery World Championships won July's award.

Fans can vote for their pick on the IPC's Facebook page here.
