Six months before Birmingham 2022 gets underway, Commonwealth Games medals would have already been awarded to athletes in shooting and archery.

Indian city Chandigarh - situated more than 4,000 miles away from Birmingham - will play host to the Commonwealth Shooting and Archery Championships in January 2022.

Chandigarh 2022 and Birmingham 2022 will be separately organised and funded, but medals will be added to the overall tally one week after the Games have been completed in the English city.

The Chandigarh move comes after it was announced shooting - a sport India has a rich history in -and archery would not feature on the programme in Birmingham, leading the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to threaten to boycott the Games.

Patiala Ki Rao Shooting Range in Chandigarh has been earmarked as the venue for the shooting with plans in place to renovate the facility ahead of the tournament.

It has yet to be confirmed where the archery will be held with the Archery Association of India reportedly writing to the IOA asking for the competition to be moved to Delhi - the host city of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
