Mike_Fennell_at_microphoneDecember 1 - Mike Fennell, the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), has not decided whether he will stand for re-election next year but revealed that there are suitable candidates within the organisation that could replace him.

The 77-year-old from Jamaica, who has served as CGF President since 1994, was re-elected unopposed for another four-year term in Sri Lanka in November 2007.

The next elections for the Presidency are set to take place in November 2011 in Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean when the host for the 2018 Commonwealth Games will also be chosen.

It is unclear whether or not Fennell will stand for the position again with CGF Vice-President Prince Imran of Malaysia thought to be a strong potential candidate for the role.

But while not naming individual successors, Fennell admitted there were individuals that could well serve as CGF President.

Speaking here at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Review, Fennell told insidethegames: "There are many people [within the CGF] that can serve as President.

"I am certainly not the only one as there are many good people.

"Re-election is not something I will discuss at this stage as it is a year away but I think in all of these sports, if you have served your time, it is time to move on.

"But at the same time you must ensure that when you leave an organisation as the President, you leave the members of the organisation and the leadership to continue along the right path.

"As President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, you have a commitment to sport and to the organisation and you can't just leave the role because it is time to leave; you must leave and ensure that the future of it is in good health."

Fennell indicted that his decision to stand for re-election could based upon how he is feeling both physically and mentally next year.

"If one has good health and so on, you will continue to serve sport," he said.

"You don't serve sport because you want a position; you serve sport because you are interested in sport and interested in the athletes.

"In whatever role, you still continue to serve sport."
