altMarch 18 - Jo Jackson (pictured) continued her impressive form into the women’s 200 metres freestyle final by smashing her own national record at British Gas Swimming Championship in Sheffield tonight.

The Loughborough swimmer, who broke the world record in the 400m freestyle in Monday, gave herself an early lead and she was two seconds ahead of the field at the final turn.

Caitlin McClatchey pushed her club-mate throughout the final 50m and seemed to be catching Jackson at the 25m mark but the pace was too much.

Jackson touched home in a Commonwealth and British record time of 1min 56.47sec to seal her second place on the British World Championship squad at Rome in July.

She said: “It’s a great feeling to qualify for the 400 and 200m freestyle.

"It takes a lot of pressure off me for the rest of the period leading to Rome.

“I know there are still ways I can improve and I'll be working with my coach Kevin Renshaw on those.”

McClatchey took the silver with a time of 1:57.58 and the bronze was won by Swansea's Jazmin Carlin in 1:58.85.
