Four reigning world champions win gold medals at SAMBO European Championships. FIAS

Individual athletes from Russia (FIAS 1) won a total of 23 medals at the 2024 SAMBO European Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, on 9-10 May, topping the medal table with 13 gold medals. Only 3 Russian athletes went home without a medal.

Ukraine came second with five gold medals. Romania and Georgia won two gold medals, Romania finished third with three silver medals.

Russia's reigning world champion Ramed Gukev won the gold medal in the 71 kg category of men’s sport SAMBO. Another World Champion Ivan Harkov from Bulgaria came third in the men's -79kg category of Sport SAMBO. 37-year-old Daviti Loriashvili from Georgia, bronze medallist at the 2023 World Championships, won his 4th continental title in the men's 100 kg sport SAMBO. Another World bronze medallist Uladzislau Burdz from Belarus (FIAS 2) won the competition in the men’s 58 kg sport SAMBO.

In women's sport SAMBO, two reigning world champions, Kseniia Zadvornova (FIAS 1, -72kg) and Katerina Moskalova (Romania, -80kg), won European titles. Iuliia Molchanova (FIAS 1, 50 kg), only 5th at the World Championships, defeated all her rivals in Novi Sad to become European Champion. Daniela Zhdan (FIAS 2, 65 kg), who became world champion in 2023, finished only third. Khrystyna Bondar from Romania was second at the 2023 World Championships and also won silver in the same category in Novi Sad. She also competed in the women's -59kg SAMBO category, where she won a gold medal. She is the only athlete to win two medals in Novi Sad.

2023 Combat SAMBO World Champion Said Saidov (FIAS 1, 88 kg) lost in the final of the 2024 European Championships, another Combat SAMBO World Champion Mikhail Kashurnikov (FIAS 1, +98 kg) won his first continental title in Serbia.
