The four-time Olympic gold medallist was elected at the AGM. He joins the Board for an initial four-year term ending in 2028 and was nominated by Rowing Australia. Grant Harrison was also elected as Vice President.

Duncan Free OAM was previously Director of Sport Engagement at Griffith University. The AGM elected the Olympic gold medallist rower to the Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) Board. Free has an extensive track record that includes competing in four Olympic Games and medalling at the Commonwealth Rowing Championships. He was nominated by Rowing Australia and joins the Board for an initial four-year term ending in 2028.

"Although I have never competed in a Commonwealth Games as an athlete, I have always had a very close association with and interest in the Games. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead," said Free. Duncan and his brother Marcus competed in the men's double sculls at two World Championships (1997 and 1998), coached by Reg. They won a bronze medal at the 1997 World Rowing Championships at Lac d'Aiguebelette, France.

Duncan Free is a benchmark in Australian rowing. At the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games he competed in the Australian Olympic quad sculls. He won a bronze medal in Atlanta in 1996, finished fourth in Sydney and seventh in Athens. After the Athens Games, Duncan took a year off before switching to sweep sculling. He teamed up with gold medallist Drew Ginn in the coxless pair. They won the World Championships in 2006 and 2007. They also won gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Securing the second available position, Harrison returns to the Board for a four-year term. He was elevated to Vice President after being confirmed by his fellow directors at the conclusion of the AGM. Harrison is a Life Member of Gymnastics Australia, a past President and also Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Australian Commonwealth Games Foundation. He first joined the Board of the Commonwealth Games Association of Australia in 2011 and has extensive experience in business management and finance, also serving as General Manager of the SA TAB for over 10 years.

Darryl Clout failed to secure the required votes to become a member of the Board during the election process. Clout is the President of World Bowls and a former President of Bowls Australia. His role as a director included serving on the Heritage and Awards Committee. He also served on the board of the Australian Commonwealth Games Foundation. There were words of praise for Clout.

CGA President Ben Houston said, "Darryl has been part of the team since CGA was restructured in 2018 and has played a valuable role. I would like to thank him for his wise counsel and continued support".

Houston also addressed Free, saying, "I welcome you aboard. As we seek a new host for 2026 and the continued success of the Commonwealth Sport Movement in Australia, we look forward to your contribution."

The CGA Board now consists of President Ben Houston, Vice President Grant Harrison and members Leeanne Grantham, Marlene Elliott, Jayne Ferguson, David Mandel, Duncan Free OAM and Steve Moneghetti AM.
