Korea and Iran win team titles at Asian Taekwondo Championships

South Korea topped the medals table at the Asian Taekwondo Championships held in Da Nang, Vietnam from 16-18 May.

The South Korean athletes won five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals. Iran and China each won three gold medals. Iran won the men's team event with 453 points ahead of Korea and Uzbekistan. Korea had the best women's result with 371 points ahead of China and Thailand.

In the men's event, Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists Jang Jun (Korea) and Arian Salimi were crowned Asian champions in the -63 kg and +87 kg categories respectively.

In the women's competition, Wang Xiaolu of China defeated Tokyo 2020 champion Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand. Dunya Abutaleb, the first woman from Saudi Arabia to win an Olympic licence, was the 53kg champion.
